Road safety: from the racetrack to the open road
At Rudskogen, a lot of what we do is about speed and excitement. Even so, we care just as much about road safety as about lap times. After all, most of us spend far more time on ordinary roads than on a racetrack.
Every day, millions of people find their way through a complex network of roads. Both the traffic around us and the vehicles we drive every day have changed a great deal in recent years. An electric car often has more power and more weight than many drivers are used to.
For all of us to travel safely, each of us has to do our part to keep ourselves and other road users safe. One of the most effective ways to stay a safe driver is to practise for what can happen suddenly and unexpectedly on the road. Both on paper and on the tarmac.
At Rudskogen you will meet skilled instructors who are ready to give you a rewarding learning experience on and off the racetrack. We value good dialogue when we run courses and experiences. That is why our instructors bring either a unique background in the emergency services from all over Norway (police, fire and ambulance), with training as driving instructors in the blue-light services and still on active duty, and/or solid experience from motorsport.
Rudskogen also has internationally certified instructors for brands such as BMW and Porsche.
Driving exercises: turning theory into practice
- Improve your reaction time: A quick and correct response to unexpected events can be crucial in avoiding accidents.
- Master vehicle control: Having full control of the vehicle, especially in difficult conditions such as rain or snow, is essential.
- Understand traffic situations: Being able to read and anticipate traffic situations helps you make better decisions on the road.

Our instructors are ready to give you a rewarding learning experience on and off the racetrack.
Our theory session focuses on the fundamentals of driving and on raising awareness of active and passive safety. Even though many of our participants have been behind the wheel for years, we find there is almost always something new to learn.
Topics include driving behaviour and psychology, risk assessment, distraction (operating the vehicle's controls and using a mobile phone), basic technical knowledge of cars (tyres, suspension, lights and visibility, seat belts, airbags and more), loose objects in the car, cars and physics/kinetic energy, electronic driver-assistance systems and much more.
Once we have established a shared understanding of what road safety means in today's society and traffic, we leave the classroom and take our places behind the wheel. This is where the individual learning begins. Our goal is for everyone to drive away from Rudskogen a slightly better driver than when they arrived, whatever their starting point and previous experience.
Our driving exercises give you the chance to practise and perfect your skills in a controlled environment with individual coaching. The exercises can include everything from basic manoeuvring to advanced techniques for handling emergencies. By taking part in driving exercises, you can learn to:
- Improve your reaction time: A quick and correct response to unexpected events can be crucial in avoiding accidents.
- Master vehicle control: Having full control of the vehicle, especially in difficult conditions such as rain or snow, is essential.
- Understand traffic situations: Being able to read and anticipate traffic situations helps you make better decisions on the road.
We set up tailored exercises such as:
- Braking and evasive manoeuvres at different speeds
- Tight slalom at different speeds
- Wide slalom at different speeds
- Full acceleration and full braking
- Track driving behind a pace car (lead car driven by an instructor)
- Off-road driving
- Passenger ride with an instructor around the racetrack
Alongside our instructors and facilities, our fleet of cars is an important tool. We can offer courses and experiences in cars you will recognise from both the road and the racetrack.
